The Baptist Health South Florida Athletic Training – Orthopedic Residency is a one-year intensive program providing Athletic Trainers with advanced training orthopedic sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery.

The program’s curriculum and robust patient population provides access to a broad-spectrum of upper and lower extremity conditions. Residents will gain robust knowledge and experience in clinic, operating room, and research settings within a high-volume, multi-specialty orthopedic practice.

During clinic, faculty and residents are supported by allied health professionals including a dedicated surgical coordinator, physician assistants, medical assistants, and X-ray technicians. The practice also employs doctoral-trained staff and clinical research coordinators who along with visiting students provide support for resident research.

    The Miami HEAT Sports Medicine Center is a new, state-of-the-art ambulatory surgery center located in the Medical Arts Building at Doctors Hospital. It is fully dedicated to orthopedic procedures and includes 4,500 square feet of the world’s most advanced and efficient operating room suites. Two of the four operating rooms have windows for viewing capabilities and student observation.

    This integral part of the Institute’s educational program provides a simulated surgical setting that allows our physicians, residents and fellows to conduct hands-on cadaveric evaluations, surgical education, clinical trials, and research studies including basic science. The lab is fully equipped with the latest arthroscopic equipment. The room allows viewing of the OR for a seamless learning experience. Fellows also have access to the Miami Anatomic and Research Center Institute surgical training center.

    Baptist Health Orthopedic Care at Plantation is a new location for Baptist Health Orthopedic Care with a 112,000 square foot wellness and medical complex just north of I-595 and Pine Island Road. This location offers a more personal, integrated healthcare experience - all in one place including Orthopedics, Surgery, Diagnostic Imaging, Physical Therapy, Primary Care, Cardiology, Chemotherapy, Endocrinology, Oncology, Pharmacy, Radiation Therapy, Spine Care, and Urgent Care.

    Introducing Baptist Health's new, state-of-the-art orthopedic complex across the street from Hard Rock Stadium, home of the Miami Dolphins. The expansive, 17,000-square-foot facility is located adjacent to the Baptist Health Training Complex, the Dolphins’ training facility, with clinical areas overlooking the team’s practice field. Serving Dolphins players and the public alike, the new location offers comprehensive orthopedic care with a full range of diagnostic imaging, physical therapy and rehabilitation services all under one roof.

    

    Eligibility Requirements and Application Schedule

    Our program attracts, educates, and retains exceptional healthcare talent to serve the South Florida community. Program participants will be trained in the Baptist Health Way with a focus on quality, inclusion, compassion, and collaboration.

    Eligibility Requirements

    • Completed a CAATE accredited Athletic Training program prior to start of the residency
    • BOC Certification
    • Athletic Training Licensure (or eligibility) in the State of Florida
    • Current certification in CPR/AED
