If you have a foot or ankle condition, you know just how much it can affect your daily life. At Baptist Health Orthopedic Care, we start by learning as much as we can about your life and your condition. That way, we can provide personalized, effective treatment so you can return to your activities.

Our team of foot and ankle specialists has an extensive sports medicine background and is skilled at treating both routine problems and traumatic injuries. We look for creative solutions that fit your needs so you can return to a pain-free, active lifestyle.

Through our foot and ankle orthopedic fellowship – one of only two in Florida – we train orthopedic surgeons to help patients experience a better quality of life.

Diagnosing Foot and Ankle Injuries

At Baptist Health Orthopedic Care, your diagnosis starts with a physical exam. We often use diagnostic tests to confirm the type of foot or ankle injury you have. We may use ultrasounds, X-Rays, MRIs and CT scans to help determine the location and extent of your injury and how best to treat it.

We have weight-bearing CT scans, which allow us to see what happens to your injury when you stand or bear weight.

A Clearer Picture with Weight-Bearing CT

We can take images while you are standing to get a 3D assessment of bone and joint alignment. This gives us a true picture of your injury in action.

Baptist Health offers the first orthopedic practice in Miami-Dade County to offer weight-bearing CT. It takes 360-degree, two-dimensional X-rays of the foot. It then stitches those images together to create an exact, three-dimensional digital replica of the foot and ankle in less than a minute.

Treating Foot and Ankle Conditions

We’ll work with you to create a personalized treatment plan. We take a look at the big picture, not just your injury. Our team will assess your entire gait — including your spine, hips and knees — to see how your injury may be affecting other parts of the body. Your physician will also spend time getting to know you, your lifestyle and the activities you enjoy.

We start with conservative treatments, including casts, braces or splints, whenever possible. In some cases, you may need surgery to repair damaged bones or ligaments. We may perform minimally invasive surgery or traditional open surgery, depending on your condition or injury and lifestyle.

Our team specializes in complex joint replacements with 3D-printed implants and reconstructive surgeries. We also use biologic therapies, such as stem cell treatments, to help heal injuries and ease your pain.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Unlike a traditional CT scan, a weight-bearing CT scan helps us better understand bone and joint alignment in action. This can lead to more precise and effective treatment. This test looks at your foot or ankle injury and how it is affected by your body weight.

  • 3D implants allow us to create customized joint implants and treat complex conditions and, in some cases, restore function to the joint. These implants are created using a 3D printer, and many of our implant designs are developed by our physicians.
