About Homestead Hospital

Homestead Hospital has been a part of the south Miami-Dade community since 1940, when local physician James Archer Smith opened it as a 10-bed hospital east of Krome Avenue. Today, Baptist Health Homestead Hospital is a modern, full-service 147-bed facility with private rooms. Services include an Emergency Center with 44 treatment rooms and a trauma room, a separate Children’s Emergency Center, a critical care unit, and comfortably-appointed birthing suites. Homestead Hospital is also home to Baptist Health Rehabilitation, a hospital-based, acute inpatient rehabilitation unit featuring individualized programs for the care of adult patients who are facing a critical or disabling injury or illness. In addition, the “Healthy Homestead” vision is to be a community where people prioritize health and well-being. Working with partners in South Dade, the goal is to inspire and empower local residents to improve their nutrition, fitness, and overall understanding of wellness. To assist with this effort, the Grow2Heal garden on campus grows organic food that is served to patients, visitors and staff, and is also used to educate the community through a number of initiatives.

Pediatric Emergency Care

Pediatric Emergency Care

Baptist Health and Nicklaus Children’s Health System are working together to ensure that the children in our community continue to receive the highest quality emergency care. The pediatric emergency physicians at Homestead Hospital are now part of Nicklaus Children’s Pediatric Specialists, the medical group practice of Nicklaus Children’s Health System.

Our physicians will continue to provide the same high-quality, compassionate care you have come to expect. Through this collaboration, they will also have access to the extensive array of pediatric subspecialists on Nicklaus’ medical staff to support your child’s specialized care needs.

Pediatric patients treated in a Baptist Health emergency department and requiring hospital admission will be transferred to Nicklaus Children’s Hospital to receive ongoing care. Homestead Hospital continues to provide neonatal intensive care.

Grow2Heal

Homestead Hospital’s Grow2Heal garden has been cultivating fresh fruits and vegetables for patients, visitors, employees and local organizations in need since 2014.

Hospital leadership dedicated vacant land adjacent to the hospital to develop an organic – and sustainable – garden as a way to offer the community fresh, nutritious foods with a far-reaching impact.

The Grow2Heal community garden at Homestead Hospital is also a creative solution to ongoing challenges with chronic disease management and preventive healthcare and is used to educate the community through school fieldtrips, health fairs, cooking demonstrations, wellness workshops and support groups.

The fruits of our labor provide people with a bounty of health benefits, including boosting the immune system and managing chronic health issues. We know that good nutrition is important to overall wellness. We are committed to delivering good health, from the ground up.

Resources for Hospital Data

Florida's Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) makes available data on hospital prices and performance on their Internet website at FloridaHealthFinder.gov and Pricing.FloridaHealthFinder.gov. The data on hospital prices and performance are based on a compilation of charges for the average patient. A patient's bill may vary from the average shown, depending upon the severity of illness and individual care needs. The service bundle information is a non-personalized estimate of costs that may be incurred by the patient for anticipated services and that actual costs will be based on services actually provided to the patient.
