Miami Cancer Institute at Baptist Health South Florida celebrated its employees on January 5 with a ceremony to thank them for their generosity. More than 2,000 employees purchased bricks in the Meditation Garden with inscriptions honoring family and friends who have been touched by cancer.
“Five years ago, we started down this road — and to have the building here, the technology and these great physicians is just incredible,” said Wayne Brackin, Chief Operating Officer of Baptist Health South Florida, who inspired the brick campaign. “It will change Miami forever and we’re all part of that now.”

Dr. Michael Zinner, CEO and Executive Medical Director of Miami Cancer Institute, also acknowledged the employees. “For those who bought bricks, I want to thank you. It’s a great tribute. We all greatly appreciate your involvement. It contributed to our beautiful garden. It’s a great way to interface between Miami Cancer Institute and Baptist Hospital and it fits beautifully on this campus.”
The employee campaign raised nearly $650,000 to fund research in the fight against cancer.
Miami Cancer Institute will welcome its first patients on January 16. A ribbon cutting and inaugural celebration will be held January 26.
