The Pharmacy Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) Residency at Baptist Hospital is a 52-week training program accredited by the American Society of Health System Pharmacists. The program is designed to develop advanced skills in the areas of internal medicine, cardiology, critical care, emergency medicine, infectious diseases, medication safety, and neuroscience.

The residency builds on previous education and experience and is geared towards developing expert knowledge and skills in managing medication-use systems and optimizing drug therapy. The resident is integrated into the provision of comprehensive and advanced pharmacy services. During this training, residents' co-precept Doctor of Pharmacy candidates from various pharmacy schools and are also required to present didactic lectures and drug therapy seminars. Residents will be required to complete a teaching certificate through Nova Southeastern University College of Pharmacy (live) or University of Connecticut (online) program.

Pharmacy residents completing this program will be capable of conducting their practice with a high level of maturity and leadership. The goal of the residency is to develop the resident into an effective, confident clinician and educator, and to enhance professional and clinical skills.

The program is designed to build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and for PGY2 specialty residency training.
