If you have prostate cancer, you may worry that the treatment may be more difficult to handle than the disease. But at Baptist Health Miami Cancer Institute, we offer robotic radical prostatectomy — a minimally invasive procedure that treats your cancer with fewer side effects.
We are home to the most experienced robotic prostatectomy team in South Florida. Our expertly trained surgeons work together with leading-edge technologies to perform hundreds of these procedures each year. Our goal is to improve your quality of life and get you back to the daily activities you enjoy most.
Robotic radical prostatectomy is a minimally invasive procedure to remove your prostate gland when you have prostate cancer. Our surgeons use robotic guidance and special tools to perform this surgery with better control and accuracy.
During this procedure, our surgeons make small cuts (incisions) in your abdomen to reach your prostate gland. With robotic arms that they control, the surgeon uses tiny surgical tools to remove your prostate.
The robotic surgery tools magnify the area around your prostate 10 times. This clear 3D view helps our surgeons make precise movements, limiting any harm to the nerves and tissues surrounding your prostate. As a result, your cancer treatment can be more effective, and you experience fewer symptoms.
According to the National Institutes of Health, the five-year survival rate for patients treated with robotic radical prostatectomy is 84 percent.
For most patients, prostate cancer treatment raises concerns about sexual function and urinary control. With robotic radical prostatectomy, you experience fewer negative impacts on these daily functions.

At Baptist Health Miami Cancer Institute, we take a team-based approach to your care and recovery. Our medical and surgical assistants, nurses and rehabilitation experts work closely with our surgeons to ensure you experience the best outcome.
We are committed to getting you back to your normal activities as soon as possible. We use the enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) system to reach this goal. This approach gets you moving soon after your procedure. Most patients return to normal activities within two to three weeks. With ERAS, you also experience less pain and have a faster, better recovery with access to our full range of rehabilitation services.
