Safe and Scenic Trails for Cyclists in South Florida

South Florida is home to some beautiful bike paths, mountain trails and greenways that offer a safe and scenic way to exercise and see the community.

Here are some of them:

Amelia Earhart Park, 401 E. 65 St., Hialeah, offers well-marked mountain bike trails for riders of all levels.

Oleta River State Park, 3400 NE 163 St., North Miami, features 10 miles of challenging and intermediate mountain bike trails, four miles of trails for the novice and three miles of paved trails.

Markham Park, 16001 W. State Road 84, Sunrise, has 14 miles of trails for all levels of bike enthusiasts.

• West Delray Regional Park, 10875 W Atlantic Ave., Delray Beach, has nearly five miles of trails through technical elements such as turns, rocks, mounds and tree roots.

Brian Piccolo Park, 9501 Sheridan St., Cooper City, features a four-mile biking path and the only velodrome in Florida for racing.

The Underline is a 10-mile linear park under Miami’s Metrorail from the Miami River north of the Brickell Metrorail station to the Dadeland South Metrorail station. Baptist Health sponsors the Underline Cycling Club that organizes rides along the path.

Shark Valley, 36000 SW Eighth St., offers a wildlife-filled 15-mile loop in the heart of the Everglades.

Black Creek Trail in South Miami-Dade County runs 8.7 miles from SW 137 Avenue and SW 184th Street south to Black Point Park and Marina near Homestead.

Lake Trail is a 5.5-mile scenic, paved greenway along Lake Worth in the island town of Palm Beach.

Rickenbacker Trail runs 8.5 miles south along the Rickenbacker Causeway to Key Biscayne.
