At Miami Cancer Institute, our clinical genetics service can help identify patients at a high risk for developing certain cancers, including ovarian and fallopian tube cancer. If you have a high risk of developing these types of cancer, you and your doctor will talk about a screening regimen, which may help find any potential disease early. You may be at greater risk if you have a family history of ovarian cancer or fallopian tube cancer or an inherited disease that increases cancer risk.
This regimen may include transvaginal ultrasounds, pelvic exams and blood tests. The blood tests typically check for high levels of the CA-125 protein, which is often produced by ovarian cancer cells.
