A diagnosis of cancer can leave you and your family members feeling overwhelmed and anxious. That’s why we have a team of oncology social workers dedicated to supporting you and those close to you.
Clinical social workers help you understand and cope with your diagnosis. At Baptist Health Miami Cancer Institute, our licensed clinical social workers address psychological, social, emotional and practical needs.
They work together with you, your family and our broad range of healthcare experts. Their goal: To ensure you adapt well to the many changes and challenges you’re facing and to help you maintain your quality of life.

- Advocate for you to ensure your rights and needs are being met
- Direct you to local, state and national resources specifically for children with cancer if your child is battling the disease
- Educate you and your family about available resources at Baptist Health Miami Cancer Institute
- Explain insurance coverage and benefits
- Help you understand the medical, social and family challenges that a serious disease can bring
- Offer emotional support
- Provide information on advance directives and help you complete them
- Recommend self-care programs and counseling services
- Refer you to community resources and services such as home health, hospice, transportation assistance, financial support resources, including Social Security Disability benefits and bereavement counseling
- Suggest appropriate support groups that are offered at Baptist Health Miami Cancer Institute and in the community to help you address your specific needs
Our social workers are the gateway to our additional psychosocial support resources. Our goal is to provide you and your family with the guidance you seek so you can focus on your treatment and getting well.
