Sports Medicine Fellowship Faculty

Michael Swartzon, M.D., is a sports medicine physician with a dual board certification in family and sports medicine. He is the founding program director for the Baptist Health Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship. Dr. Swartzon is an associate professor at Florida International University and an affiliate professor at Nova Southeastern University. Dr. Swartzon is a voting member of the Baptist Health Institutional Review Board Graduate Medical Education Committee. Additionally, Dr. Swartzon is the associate medical director for primary care orthopedics at Baptist Health Orthopedic Care. Regionally, Dr. Swartzon is on the Florida Academy of Family Physicians board. Nationally, Dr. Swartzon is on AMSSM Practice and Policy committee and NFL Joint Pain Management Committee.

He has significant experience with professional athletes as a team physician for the Miami Dolphins, Florida Panthers, InterMiami CF, the jockeys at Gulfstream Park Racetrack, and a tournament physician for the Miami Open. He is the co-medical director for the Miami Marathon & Half Marathon. Additionally, he cares for various collegiate teams, including Barry University (D -II) and St. Thomas University (NAIA).

As a South Florida native, Dr. Swartzon is an avid fan of local sports teams.

Luis Rodriguez, M.D., is a primary care sports medicine physician with Baptist Health Orthopedic Care and a member of Baptist Health Medical Group, an organization of more than 180 physicians in multiple specialties integrated within Baptist Health South Florida. He specializes in non-surgical treatments for acute, overuse and chronic orthopedic problems, with a special interest in sports related injuries, joint arthritis, musculoskeletal ultrasound, and ultrasound-guided procedures. Dr. Rodriguez received his medical degree from the Luis Razetti School of Medicine at Universidad Central de Venezuela in Caracas, where he received five Outstanding Performance Awards during clinical rotations. He completed an internship and residency in Internal Medicine at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation– Florida Program, and a Fellowship in Primary Care Sports Medicine at UHS Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City, N.Y. An academic affiliate of SUNY Upstate Medical University. He has served as team physician for the U.S. Ski Team, Miami F.C., Florida International University Athletics, the Binghamton Senators Ice Hockey team, and a variety of college, high school and league sports, including baseball, basketball and football. He is Board-certified in Primary Care Sports Medicine and is a member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine and the American College of Sports Medicine.

As a family and primary care orthopedics sports medicine physician, Alejandro Centurion, M.D., helps people of all ages keep their bones, joints, muscles, and ligaments healthy so they can stay active. He evaluates and diagnoses acute, chronic and overuse injuries and develops individualized treatment plans utilizing conservative, nonsurgical methods. He also provides the highest level of care to athletes of all ages, sports and levels of competition — from youth competitors to weekend warriors to professional athletes. Dr. Centurion is involved in education, research and hands-on field experience in the sports medicine specialty. He has served as team physician for major league soccer teams, fellow team physician for major and minor league baseball programs and assistant team physician for several collegiate and high school athletic programs. He also has provided medical coverage for many national sporting events, such as the Arnold Palmer Invitational Golf Tournament, NCAA Big 12 Women’s Basketball Championship Tournament and USA Triathlon Championships. He speaks English and Spanish.
