What are the symptoms of Ewing sarcoma?

Ewing sarcoma may cause:

  • Pain in the affected area
  • A lump or swelling that may feel warm
  • Fractures in bones weakened by the cancer
  • Fever
  • Fatigue
  • Weight loss

Ewing sarcoma may be mistaken for a bruise or infection and then diagnosed through testing when it does not respond to antibiotics or go away on its own.

How is Ewing sarcoma diagnosed?

To diagnose Ewing sarcoma and determine whether it has spread, our team may use:

  • Imaging: such as X-rays, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or computed tomography (CT or CAT) scans.
  • Biopsy: removing a small tissue sample, usually while the child is under anesthesia.
  • Testing: for genetic changes usually found in the disease.
