What are the symptoms of pediatric sarcomas?

Children may experience symptoms differently. Symptoms depend on the type of sarcoma and other factors and can include:

Swelling, redness or pain around the site of the tumor
Weight loss, decreased appetite
Lethargy, fatigue
Paralysis or incontinence if the tumor affects the spine
Numbness, tingling or paralysis if the tumor compresses nerves

How are pediatric sarcomas diagnosed?

Prompt, effective treatment depends on accurate diagnosis and staging. Our team is experienced in identifying sarcomas and use a number of tests to help determine the best course of treatment.

The most common tests for sarcomas are:

X-rays, bone scans, MRI, CT and PET scans
Blood tests
Biopsy of the tumor to confirm the diagnosis and determine the cancer type
Bone marrow aspiration and biopsy
Genetic and DNA testing
