Cardiovascular disease — including heart disease, stroke, and high blood pressure — is responsible for one out of every three deaths in the U.S. It is the No. 1 killer of American women and men, and it is a leading cause of serious illness and disability, according to the National Institutes of Health.
With American Heart Month in full swing, West Kendall Baptist Hospital, along with its partner the American Heart Association, aims to improve the community’s heart health and overall well-being with the Healthy Hub, part of the Healthy West Kendall initiative.
The Healthy Hub is located in the lobby of West Kendall Baptist Hospital. Participants can walk in and have their health evaluated in about 15 minutes. They also get the opportunity to speak with a healthcare professional about simple steps they can take to optimize their health. Best of all, the screening is free.
Here are some of the vital statistics you can check at the Healthy Hub:
• Blood pressure.
• Blood glucose.
• Blood cholesterol.
• Body mass index (BMI) and percentage of body fat.
• Your heart score from the American Heart Association’s “MyLifeCheck.”
You can also find:
• How healthy your current lifestyle is and how you can change it for the better.
• A referral for follow-up care, if needed.
• Information about free healthy living resources in our community.
