(VIDEO: Listen to Key Largo resident and Mariners Hospital volunteer Pauline Roller share her secrets for longevity.)
As America celebrated Independence Day with barbecues and fireworks, Pauline Roller was attending one of three parties held to celebrate her 100th birthday. Ms. Roller was born July 4, 1915. In that year, Woodrow Wilson was president, and the Boston Braves were World Series champions.
Ms. Roller grew up in the northeast region of the U. S., but visited the Florida Keys more and more as her husband explored his passion for fishing. After settling in Key Largo as a permanent resident, she began volunteering at Mariners Hospital in 1989. Her current position is greeting people at the Tassell Medical Arts Building on the hospital campus. Ms. Roller is all smiles as she directs visitors and patients to doctors’ offices and locations for physical therapy, laboratory tests and diagnostic imaging services.
Mariners Hospital employees, fellow members of the Mariners Hospital Auxiliary and community residents gathered for a birthday party to honor Ms. Roller. What was on the menu? Meatloaf, one of her favorite dishes.
The Baptist Health South Florida News Team was there. Watch it now.
