Hundreds turned out for the 22nd annual reunion at the George Batchelor/Gloria Vasta Lewis Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Baptist Children’s Hospital. Former patients and families who were cared for in the NICU at Baptist, as well as doctors, nurses and support staff came together to celebrate life and health. The event was held on the lake at Baptist Hospital’s main campus.
The NICU at Baptist Children’s Hospital cares for more than 500 premature or critically ill infants each year. Many of these babies are born weighing little more than a pound or two. Some require hospital stays of several months, creating a special bond between the children, their families and the teams of specialists that care for them.
